I decided to try this floating lake strainer as the water is shallow and grassy for quite a distance in front of my home. A regular foot valve was fine but allowed a little too much fine debris through. The lake strainer really minimized this from happening.
Very pleased I did not have to clean my sink aerators or washing machine filters regularly. I have used it for 6 months now and will use it next season when I open the house again. My only complaint is that the sealed air chamber took on water and the strainer no longer floated at the surface. Otherwise the concept is good.

Our shoreline is mucky and marshy. Our dock is 120' long. It should be about 140' to avoid the weedy water. There were no instructions included with the strainer. However, I have been pumping water from a lake since 1980 so I am familiar with the process.
I hooked it to the end of the dock with a wire. It would not float "straight, level" until I hooked up the pump, primed the pump and started the water pumping. I have only been using it two weeks, so I have not had to clean it yet.
