Good Value

Arrived on time. Installs easy, Check the fittings, air pressure & electric connections as you go, assume this is prepped for shipping not installation. Installation manual is a little sparse. Needed a little fine tuning of tank pressure & pressure switch, but that's expected. Pressure gauge accuracy is a little off, used known accurate set of gauges to set up & determine difference. Nonetheless, good little pump for my lawn & garden.

the pump was obviously dropped cause there was a bent leg and pressure switch. They forgot one of the plugs that goes on the side of the suction. After fixing all of the things myself its a great pump. Just an inconvenience having to fix things that shouldn't have been an issue to start with.

This pump is to move rain storage water to plants since i have to haul my water (no well) i haul a 1000 gallons at a time from town 30 miles away. so every drop counts. The pump looks okay, I just had to change out the controller, I strongly recommend putting on switch with a low water cutoff. For $20 bucks, it can save your pump

Good Pump, Some Issues
By Neil L.
Fort Bragg, California
Purchased 07/04/2016 |
Review Posted 07/21/2016
I bought this unit to replace a really ancient Sears pump/tank combo that had finally given up and that we use for irrigation only.
The BurCam was fairly priced, arrived quickly and was well packaged with large foam pads both above and below the unit.
The installation instructions were minimal and some of the specifications detailed in the Water Pumps Direct description were incorrect - for example the inlet diameter on the supplied unit was 1" not 1 1/4" as stated. Note: the pump does not come with a power cord luckily I was able to utilize the one from my old pump. After some on-line research I figured I was ready to go ahead with the installation.
The initial installation went fairly well. The only snag that I hit was in attaching the pressure gauge, which for some reason does not come already attached. The gap between the gauge and the body of the pump is so small that I had to purchase a narrow profile bicycle wrench to tighten the nut.
When I primed and turned on the pump for the first time it ran smoothly but had several leaks in both the joints that I had made with the existing plumbing, and in the factory supplied galvanized Tee on top of the pump and in the pressure gauge. After several attempts to fix the leaks I ended up replacing the galvanized Tee with a PVC Tee, and using both Teflon tape and paste on the pressure gauge. This seemed to do the trick and the pump has now been running leak-free for several days.
One other issue that I hit was that the pump was more efficient than the previous pump and, because of this, tried to push more water through the existing irrigation system than the current set up could handle. This resulted in pressure building up in the sprinkler lines which in turn caused the pump to cycle on and off rather than running constantly when the watering system was on. I fixed this by removing a pressure regulator that was installed in the lines between the pump and the valves which allowed the whole system to run at a higher pressure than before.
So far so good!

So far this has been an excellent unit, but have only used it a short time. It appears be much more solidly built than the equivalent price unit at the big box lumber stores that are made of plastic, as this is cast iron, how can it not be better?
